In adoring memory of Wendy Carroll

Wendy was born in Yass in 1953, and peacefully passed away on Tuesday 11 July 2023, with family by her side. She lived a remarkable life as a devoted mother, grandmother, and funeral director, touching the lives of countless people in her beloved hometown of Yass.

Wendy began her working life as a dental nurse at the local dentist before taking on a role in the science lab at the high school. She later worked as a teacher’s aide, sharing her love for learning and kindness with (students and colleagues alike).

Wendy married John Dennis and was blessed with 2 sons Michael and James.

In late 1982, Wendy’s life took a tragic turn when her husband John Dennis passed away. Despite this tremendous loss, Wendy found the strength to take over his role as the local funeral director, dedicating her life to serving the families of Yass with care and compassion.

In 1987 Wendy married Graham, who brought joy and companionship into her life and blessed her with her third son, Andrew.  While their relationship broke down in 2019, Wendy always spoke warmly of Graham and cherished the memories they made and shared together.

Wendy was a woman of unwavering strength and resilience, always finding joy and meaning in her family, work, and community. She tirelessly advocated for Yass, taking great pride in serving her community during its most difficult times.

Wendy was a loving mother to her three sons, Michael, James, and Andrew; a caring and generous mother-in-law to Shae and Christine; and a cherished grandmother to her five grandchildren. Her family was always at the centre of her life, and she made sure to show them love and support in every way possible.

Wendy’s dedication to her work and her community was recently recognised by the mayor of Yass, who commended her for her selfless service and contribution to the town with a Good Citizen Award.

Despite her short battle with cancer, Wendy remained a positive, cheeky, and cheerful presence in the lives of those around her. She loved her hometown of Yass and was grateful for the support and love of her community.

Wendy’s memory will be forever cherished by her sons, daughters, grandchildren, and all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to her community will live on.

In keeping with Wendy’s wishes, her family will hold a private funeral service to honour her life and legacy.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held shortly, details to follow.
